To Lincoln Center, then Central Park, and then the NY Waterway Bus to 39th street ferry

First I took the path to 33rd then the B train to Columbus circle. I could have taken the D train.

Then I walked up Broadway to the Lincoln Center Plaza, and cut through the Library for the Performing Arts.

After the show I tried going back through the Lincoln Center Plaza to Central Park but it was longer then taking 66th and I got lost in the park.

Eventually I got to Bethesda Fountain. Heard some music.

Then walked due South to 6th avenue and 57th.  Here's where it got fun.

I tried to get the Waterway bus on 6th avenue but missed the bus because 6th avenue is one way and I was on the wrong side as I saw it go by. So I ran up 6th and crossed the street but it was just leaving from a stop so I ran up 6th avenue further and took a right on 57th and ran to the bus stop. I stood and waved butt she drove right by. So I ran non-stop to 7th. She was just closing the doors at the corner of 57th and 7th so I frantically waved my arms at her so she let me on.

She took 7th down to 49th and took that all the way to the ferry port at 10th and 39th. This bus was still off peak.

I then waited till 4pm so I could get the ferry to Harborside.

Bronx Zoo

I took the 2 train to Pelham parkway exit because Google maps told me to. I could also have taken the 5.

It took about 15 minutes to walk Boston road to the gate.

I came into the zoo at the Bronx River Gate. It's free on Wednesdays but you have to visit the ticket booth to get a ticket anyway and they guilt you into making a donation. Also you need to shell out the fifteen bucks to see all the exhibits and rides. That upgrade is called Total Experience.

I then visited the world of birds and the bison. I got a good 6 dollar chili at the zoo brews. Then I passed the monorail and left through the Asia gate.

It's a ten minute walk due South on Boston road South to the West Farms Square Station where I could take either the 2 or the 5. I took the 5 train.

Next time I would use the West Farms Square Station/East Tremont Avenue. You must include the West Farms Square part in google. Then you can walk to the Asia Gate.

Update: Also the Bronx River gate might be useful, but it only accesses the 2 train, not the 5 train.

Further update: I mapped it out. The easiest way to get to the Bronx Zoo for me is this:
  1. Harborside Ferry to Brookfield Place.
  2. Walk the twelve minutes from the ferry to the 2 or the 3 train. Don't take the 1.
  3. The 2 or 3 go all the way to West Farms Square/East Tremont Avenue. Don't just type in East Tremont Avenue in google. Type in the whole thing. Note: Google doesn't show the 3 train; only the 2. I don't know why. So maybe it's safer to take the 2.
  4. Walk north to the Asia Gate
  5. An alternative is to take the 5 train, also West Farms Square/East Tremont Avenue

Trip to Decker Farm in Staten Island

  1. Took the PATH to the Oculus
  2. Headed in the direction of Fulton but went up the first exit in the hallway which is Dey
  3. The X17 bus is right there at street level
  4. The X17 bus is an express bus, so we think we paid $6.50 but not sure because we used our metro cards
  5. The X17 took us through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, through Brookly from which we could see Bay Ridge, and then over the Verazano Narrows Bridge and into Staten Island.
  6. The driver did not drop us by Vassar, but instead by the Staten Island Mall which was a little closer to Decker Farm than we had expected.
  7. It was only an eleven minute walk from the stop to Decker Farm
  8. We went on a hay ride and took some pictures. Their food truck had junk and hot dogs and pumpkin pie of course. The admission is $6.00 for adults, which does not include a pumpkin but does include the hay ride. This farm was like a baby Secor Farms. It was fun
  9. On the way out we saw a shuttle bus to Richmondtowne, and we asked the bus driver if we could ride it to Richmondtown. That was a five minute ride
  10. From Richmonddtown we decided to do the 25 minute walk to the SIR (Staten Island Railroad) which takes our MTA card. This was the Oakwood Heights station.
  11. We took SIR from Oakwood Heights all the way to the Staten Island Ferry, and then took the Staten Island Ferry home
The fare for a subway or local bus ride is $2.75*. The fare for an express bus ride is $6.50. If you qualify for reduced fare, you can travel for half fare. Up to three children 44 inches tall and under ride for free on subways and local buses when accompanied by a fare paying adult.

The new ferry at Harborside

The new Harborside New York Waterway Ferry opened today. It runs all day, every fifteen minutes, to Battery Park City/Brookfield Place, for six dollars. It also runs every half hour during commuter hours to midtown 39th street, which is nine dollars.

I took the Harborside ferry this morning to Battery Park/Brookfield Place. Then I tried hopping onto the M20 bus to Lincoln Center but took the bus in the wrong direction so I got off at the last stop which is their South Ferry stop. He dropped me at Broad and South, which meant I had to walk down to the Staten Island Ferry in order to cross FDR drive.

Then I walked up to Pier 11/Wall Street Ferry, and took the East River NYC Ferry Line (all the NYC Ferries are 2.75, same as MTA) to the Brooklyn stops including Dumbo, South Williamsburg, North Williamsburg, and two more stops. Then we went straight across the East River to the East 34th street ferry. I got off there (the last stop for the East River line) and caught the M34 bus. The bus stop is right next to the ferry.

The M34 in an SBS bus, so I had to use my metro card to buy a ticket before boarding. I took the M34 bus 6th avenue. Then I walked around and eventually took the PATH from 33rd street and 6th home.

I checked out the Amazon store. I was hopeful the salesperson could tell me how to get Alexa Echo to talk to youtube, but she told me there's no way and moreover, as of yesterday, Alexa is not recognizing youtube at all, which wasn't true.

I corrected her but she seemed so sure. Actually, it's only Echo Show that seems to not be speaking to Youtube.

In any case, maybe IFTTT will solve my problem.

Walking the new East Midtown Greenway

We were already in the city, on 5th avenue and 20th.  So we took the 6 train to 59th street and walked east and south to get to 54th stree...
